Turkish Americans

A vital demographic in American society, Turkish-Americans make daily contributions to American culture and economy.
About 137,000 Turkish-Americans were counted in the 2000 census.
Virginia had less than 4,500 Turkish-Americans in 2000.
It's important to understand that not all Turkish-Americans are Gulenists.
The Turkish political situation is extremely tense now. Gulen's Islamist supporters have gained control of the government, police, and media. However, the Turkish military remains a force for secular, Attaturk-inspired modernism.
Turkish-Americans are under pressure from this political situation in their homeland. The Gulen movement threatens and intimidates Turkish-Americans. Most are hesitant, if not terrified, to speak against Gulen in public.
